Friday's College Soccer Special is the UCSB/Stanford Men's Game
College soccer fans can kick off their weekend in style with Friday’s College Soccer Special. In men’s NCAA Division I action, the Santa Barbara Gauchos will host the Stanford Cardinal on September 27 at 10 p.m. ET.
Announcing Friday’s game will be Dean Linke and Keith Tabatznik.
The last time these two teams met Stanford was able to come away the victor, finding the back of the net in overtime for the 1-0 win. Stanford leads the all-time series, 11-5-2.
Stanford is off to a good start six games into their 2013 campaign. With head coach Jeremy Gunn in his second season at the helm, the Cardinal are 4-1-1 and will go for their fifth consecutive win with this upcoming match against UCSB.
The last time Stanford was able to string this many wins together was in 2009 when the program earned six straight victories spanning September 4-27.
Stanford has netted eight goals in the first six contests, with half of those from junior forward Zach Batteer. Midfielders JJ Koval and Eric Verso have also contributed to the offense by producing a pair of goals each.
Defense has been solid for the Cardinal too as senior goalkeeper Drew Hutchinson earned himself Pac-12 Player of the Week for the week of September 17-23 with his play leading into this match. Hutchinson picked up a pair of clean sheets and helped his team to defeat College of Charleston (2-0) and Colgate (1-0) in Stanford’s most recent competitions.

Achille Campion’s brace against Yale helped his team to victory and earned him a spot on College Soccer News National Team of the Week. The senior forward currently has three goals on the year, which accounts for a third of the Gauchos’ total goals.
Santa Barbara has nine goals entering their match against Stanford with four players in the scoring column. Along with Campion, senior midfielder Goffin Boyoko has also stacked up three goals for his team.
