NSCAATV.com College Soccer Special: South Florida vs. Clemson (women)
NSCAATV College Soccer Special schedule kicks off Friday, Aug. 30, in a big way at the University of South Florida.
USF will serve as the sight as the College Soccer Specials lone doubleheader of the season, as the Bulls host Clemson in women’s action at 6 p.m. ET, followed by the men’s game against Florida Gulf Coast scheduled for an 8 p.m. ET kickoff.
The College Soccer Special are live game broadcasts of NCAA Division I men’s and women’s games from around the country. Similar to NSCAA Games of the Week of years’ past, the live streams will put the spotlight on the premier programs and stars of intercollegiate soccer in the United States.
The USF women have started the season strong, posting a 7-0 win in their opener against Arkansas Pine-Bluff. The Bulls followed up with a 1-1 draw, battling Texas through double overtime.
Head coach Denise Schilte-Brown has her team firing on all cylinders early on this season as six USF players have already found the back of the net, scoring eight goals in 200 minutes of play. Junior Demi Stokes and sophomore Olivia Chance produced multi-goal performances in USF’s season opener, scoring two a piece.
Besides their offensive threat, the Bulls defense has also been on display in the early goings. Sophomore goalkeeper Christiane Endler was named American Athletic Conference Goalkeeper of the Week for her performance against Texas. Endler only surrendered a single goal while recording eight saves in USF’s 1-1 draw with the Longhorns.
Clemson is coming off of a similar weekend to that of their competition. The Tigers will also be entering the match with a win and a tie.
The Clemson defense has been the highlight for head coach Eddie Radwanski, as the Tigers have yet to concede a goal by posting a pair of clean sheets through the first weekend of play. The first came in a 0-0 draw against Auburn, a 2012 NCAA tournament team, and the other in a 1-0 victory against Furman.
Radwanski’s freshman class looks to make an impact this year as nine freshmen saw action in the Tiger’s 1-0 win. Freshman defenders Gabby Byorth and Claire Wagner, and keeper Kailen Sheridan all started and played all 90 minutes of the contest. However, freshman Catrina Atanda was the difference, netting the game-winner in the second half.
With freshmen Wagner and Sheridan, Clemson was the only program to have multiple players named to the 2013 TopDrawSoccer.com Preseason Best XI Freshmen Team.
